Project description

Are you interested in nature and gardening? Would you like to participate in arranging events and activities for locals? LAG Nouseva Rannikkoseutu develops rural areas across seven municipalities in Northern Finland. In this project four (4) volunteers will work in the city of Raahe (25 000 inhabitants). The volunteers will be working in workshops which are meant for young adults who are facing challenges with e.g. employment, education or life management. Workshops are aimed at training new skills and advancing participation. The volunteers will be primarily working in a workshop focused on nature and gardening but it is also possible to work with themes such as handicraft, media, IT and customer service. In addition, the volunteer will be participating in planning and execution of a city festival and other events that are arranged for everyone in the region. The project starts on 29 July 2019 and ends on 29 September 2019, if funding application is approved by NA.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation will be arranged in rental apartments (organizers will take care of the renting process). Volunteers will get staff lunch during work days but other times they need to cook for themselves (allowance will be provided). Distances are short in Raahe: main venues are mainly reachable by foot or bike. If needed, public transportation can be arranged.

Training during the project

The volunteers will participate in a on-arrival training. The volunteers will also get training for Finnish language. Volunteers are guided to all tasks which provide great learning opportunities. They will also have the opportunity to do job-shadowing with different professionals of rural development.

Volunteer profile

We would like to receive volunteers who are motivated to work with themes such as nature, gardening, peer guidance and event organizing. Working hours can change according to tasks, so volunteers need to be flexible. Volunteers must be prepared to live in a small city environment in Northern Finland.
